1 – IHG One Rewards discounts

The focus of hotel brands is to get their IHG One Rewards members (previously IHG Rewards Club) to book directly with them and with that, they try to offer good discounts and savings.

The beauty of being a member is that you automatically get access to Member Exclusive Rates.

The discount varies between properties and countries but we’ve seen that in most cases, the discount is 5% off.

2 – Seasonal IHG Promotions

Every quarter IHG has new promotions. Typically they e-mail this offer to all members but if you missed it, you can always check their offers page before you book.

Most of these offers are geared towards IHG Rewards Club members so make sure to join if you haven’t already yet.

3 – Auto Club Discount

Almost every hotel chain has offers for special memberships and seniors.

For those that have a AAA or CAA membership, you are also entitled to savings by checking off “AAA/CAA Rate” under Rate Preference or go to this page.

There’s no official % discount with membership but typically it’s 5%, but can be greater.

Your membership card must be presented at check-in. 

4 – Senior Discount

If you are 62 or older, you’re eligible for the senior discount. You don’t nee to be a member of AARP for this membership so anyone is eligible. The discount is 15%-30% off rack rate.

5 – Perkopolis (Canada Only)

One of the corporate perk programs in Canada is called Perkopolis and they offer a special discount for IHG properties.

To book with this discount, it’s easier to go straight to the Perkopolis IHG landing page.

To be eligible, your stay must include one of Thursday through Sunday. You must also be an IHG One Rewards member to get this discount.

6 – Price Matching

Something that isn’t well advertised is IHG’s Best Price Guarantee.

Here’s how it works.

If you find a lower rate for the same hotel, room type and dates, they’ll match that and also give you 5x the IHG Rewards Club points (up to a maximum of 40,000).

Fine, it’s not as good as Hilton, Radisson, and Marriott’s 25% off, but it’s something!

Tips On Earning IHG Status

The traditional way of building up status with IHG One Rewards is to complete stays with their properties. This is a slow way to get to Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond. For most, it’s nearly impossible unless you travel for business.

Starting March 1, 2024, those that work at these companies can instantly get upgraded to Silver status which is valid through the end of 2024. The main benefit of Silver is:

• 20% bonus points
• Points don’t expire

If you already have Silver status, you can instead opt to get Bonus Elite Night Credits make each night you stay count twice (up to 15), which can make a huge difference for you to get to the next tier or Milestone Reward.

This is a bit more of a longer-term play but if you can accelerate your earning of IHG ONE Rewards, the faster you’ll be able to redeem those points for free stays.

Fast Track To Diamond

IHG launched a short-term offer where select IHG One Rewards members can get Diamond Elite status if you complete 10 paid nights between October 1 to December 31, 2024.

Diamond Elite is IHG’s highest status so if you have a big trip coming up, this is definitely worth taking advantage of. It’s the only level where breakfast is included. You know how much we take advantage of this which made Bora Bora on a budget possible.

If you’re wondering, these type of fast track offers usually happen in the fall as an incentive for members to make a final push. It’s also designed to target those that didn’t qualify for Diamond Elite the previous year.
