Spiaggia dei Conigli Is the No. 1 Beach in Italy

TripAdvisor’s 2025 Traveler’s Choice Awards ranked the best beaches in Europe and the top Italian beach is a gem in Sicily.

There’s nothing quite like summer in Italy. It’s a season filled with sunshine, warm temperatures, and a thorough embrace of all things “la dolce vita.” Think aperol spritzes, seasonal fare, and leisurely days at the beach.

If that sounds like your ideal vacation, it may be time to start planning your Italian getaway—and you’ll find plenty of trip inspiration on TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Beaches list highlighting the top beaches in Europe.

While beaches in Greece, Portugal, and Spain took the most coveted spots on the list, Spiaggia dei Conigli (or Rabbit Beach) on the island of Lampedusa in Sicily was deemed the official best beach in Italy. Coming in at No. 5, the beach is known for clear blue waters, white sand, a sea turtle population, and a generally relaxing atmosphere.

Methodology
To compile its list of the best beaches in Europe, TripAdvisor developed a “comprehensive analysis of global beach reviews” to determine which destinations “[received] a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the TripAdvisor community over a 12-month period.”

To ensure Spiaggia dei Conigli maintains its pristine natural beauty, access from June to mid-October is limited to two shifts, and travelers have to make reservations in advance. To reach the beach, you can take a bus from Lampedusa’s city center, walk (it’s about a 1-hour trek), bike, or rent an electric scooter or car. Just be sure to bring some supportive shoes and water, as there’s a short hike to get down to the beach.

Don’t worry, though: your effort will be rewarded with an incredible seaside experience. “It’s the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. Going down, you are left speechless and with bated breath … The sea is a mix of wonderful colors, more crystal clear than a pool,” says one reviewer. Others call it “a paradise on Earth” and share that the limitation on visitors ensures “you can enjoy its beauty without having to find yourself under the umbrella or on someone else’s towel.”

Three other Italian beaches were featured in the Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Beaches in Europe. Tropea Beach came in at No. 8, and Spiaggia La Cinta and Cala Mariolu on Sardinia took the No. 12 and the No. 15 spots, respectively.
