Silver Airways Shuts Down, Cancels All Flights—What…

Florida-based carrier Silver Airways has abruptly ceased operations, the company announced today.

As of June 11, all Silver flights are canceled and customers will need to make other plans.

“Please do not go to the airport,” the airline has advised ticketed passengers in an alert. “All credit card purchases should be refundable through your credit card company or your travel agency.”

Silver had a hub in Fort Lauderdale and operated flights with service to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and other destinations in Florida and the Caribbean.

The airline filed for bankruptcy in December, reports the Miami Herald, and “put itself up for sale but did not get any bidders” willing to continue flight operations.

What if you have tickets for a Silver Airways flight?

That flight is not happening. And your booking has not been transferred to another similar itinerary via another airline, either.

At least you are entitled to a refund. Ticket purchases made with credit cards should be fully refunded through the card issuer. Contact your credit card company if you have questions or concerns.

If you need to travel soon yet your Silver Airways flight has been canceled, you will need to buy tickets from another airline, warns USA Today—and the prices are likely to be higher than what you paid the first time, especially if the flight is imminent.

Launched in 2011, Silver Airways was founded with assets from another bankrupt, bygone carrier, Gulfstream International Airlines.
